Osher SealOur New Name

We are pleased to announce that JILL has become OLLI at UVa and is now affiliated with the national network of Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes, a network of lifelong learning institutes designated and funded by the Bernard Osher Foundation of San Francisco.

We are extremely fortunate to have become a member of a national group of lifelong learning institutes. As an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute we receive financial support which will allow us to grow and expand our program offerings.

OLLI at UVa is recognized as a University-Related Foundation by the Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia.

LibraryOur Philosophy

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UVa brings together people from various backgrounds who share a common interest in learning and intellectual stimulation. Formed in association with the University of Virginia, the Institute was inspired by Thomas Jefferson's own deeply-held belief in, and practice of, education as a lifelong enterprise which invigorates the mind and enriches life.

We are an all-volunteer organization with the exception of two part-time staffers in the office.

Course instructors are specialists in their fields. Many of them are professors from the University of Virginia and from universities across the United States. Others are professionals from the community at large.

What We Offer You

statueWe offer the opportunity to join and meet other seniors with the same intellectual curiosity as yours. Tailored to seniors’ lifestyles, classes are held in the daytime, always in places with convenient parking. We’ve found that short schedules (three to six weeks) fit well for the typical senior.

Membership includes varied university-level classes in: * Art, Music and Drama * Contemporary Living * Social and Political Issues * Humanities * Religion, Philosophy and Ethics * Science and Health.

OLLI-at-UVa Membership

OLLI at UVa welcomes all who are interested in our goals to join. There are no pre-requisites, educational or otherwise, for membership. When you register for classes, you become an OLLI-at-UVa member for that semester. Each semester is composed of two six-week sessions, A and B. Members are entitled to participate in all OLLI-at-UVa functions. Scholarships are available by calling the OLLI at UVa office at 923-3600.

OLLI-at-UVa Associate Membership

OLLI at UVA Members who want to retain their membership but not attend classes for a particular semester may decide to become an associate member by paying $25.00 per semester. This entitles you to receive the catalog, our newsletter, special announcements, and to participate in all OLLI-at-UVa functions except classes.

Tuition Fees

Membership Fee: $100.00 entitles you to a total of 12 class units in the semester (Sessions A and B combined). The number of units is listed with each course. You must be registered to take any OLLI-at-UVa course. Computer fees are in addition to the OLLI-at-UVa tuition fee.
